This improvised piano performance was recorded as guests were arriving to Alistair Walsh's 'Celebration of Life'. Building on motifs and chord sequences explored in the weeks after Al's death, this piece moves as the energy in the room changed from quiet mingling, to loving reuniting and finally, deep reflection as the guests were all seated.

On July the 7th, 2023 the world lost a true legend of a human, Al Walsh. I first met Al in March 1998 and instantly wanted to be around this wonderful man as much as I possibly could. So many people were sucked into his warm, loving orbit and we all fell in love immediately. The depth of his positivity was magnetic. We were all better humans for knowing Al.

Fast forward to 2023 and I'm on the phone talking with Al about his imminent 'celebration' (he insisted on never using the 'F' word) and how I could contribute to the day musically. It's a conversation I'll never forget, cherish forever... and never completely understand.

This recording is just a small part of what was a magnificent day celebrating the life of a 'super bloke'.

Al was a bright and shiny light in the lives of many and continued to fuel that light with his unrelenting positivity, even in his darkest and most painful days.
